The UCA Trauma Injury and Orthopedic Surgery Unit treats almost all types of orthopedic and trauma injuries with the exception of injuries to the spinal column. We mainly specialise in arthroscopic surgery on the knee, shoulder, hip and ankle and also perform knee and hip prosthesis surgery.
The UCA Trauma Injury and Orthopedic Surgery Unit has a team of doctors specialising in surgery, led by Doctor Mikel Sánchez as the scientific and medical head of the unit, which attends patients with joint and periarticular complaints. Furthermore, there is a team of nurses and physiotherapists to provide the patient with integral care and treatment in an aim to relieve and minimize the functional limitations of the patients and to reduce recovery times whenever possible.
We are also pioneers in the biological treatment of limb and upper-limb injuries using Plasma Rich in Growth Factors Technology (PRGF®-Endoret®) and in the use of 3D technology applied to major trauma injuries. Always at the forefront, we have incorporated the first intelligent robotic arm in the Basque Country, called MAKO. This advanced device makes it possible to perform hip and knee arthroplasty (prosthesis) surgeries in a much more personalized, precise and safe way. Its application objectively entails an unprecedented improvement in patient care, a qualitative advance in the field of orthopedics and an optimization of the cost per intervention.
Joint complaints are increasingly common especially those related to the practise of sporting activities. The UCA Trauma Injury and Orthopedic Surgery Unit, in partnership with the Advanced Physiotherapy Unit, offers rehabilitation and sports education programmes which aim to correct those postures and actions which could over time lead to trauma injuries.
