Hip Osteoarthritis

What is it?

Hip osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition that affects the hip joint, causing the breakdown of the joint cartilage. This cartilage acts as a cushion between the bones, allowing smooth, pain-free movement. However, when it becomes worn down, it can lead to pain, stiffness, and difficulty moving.

Symptoms

The symptoms of hip osteoarthritis include stiffness and decreased mobility, intense pain that may radiate along the front of the thigh and down to the knee, groin pain that can extend into the leg, and discomfort while walking, leading to difficulty and pain while moving.

Treatment

We use minimally invasive techniques, including injections into the affected structures or the nerves that supply sensation to the hip, providing effective pain relief. These treatments include:

  • Intra-articular Injections: medication is administered directly into the joint to achieve targeted pain relief. These injections include:
    •  Local anesthetics and corticosteroids, which provide rapid and effective pain relief through their short-term anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.
    •  Platelet-rich plasma (PRP): with its remarkable anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects, PRP not only improves symptoms but also helps repair damaged tissue, and is particularly effective in treating tendinopathies.
  • Radiofrequency / Rhizolysis: we use electromagnetic waves delivered through a fine needle to deactivate nerve hypersensitivity. This outpatient procedure, performed under local anesthesia, is painless and provides significant relief within 3-4 weeks, and benefits that can last up to 2 years. It is especially effective for persistent hip pain in patients who have undergone surgery or when surgery is not a viable option.
