Sprain after-effects

What is it?

Ankle sprains are a common pathology in adolescents, and can lead to osteochondritis dissecans or repetitive sprains that can make sports activities impossible.

Causes

In young patients, we look for an injury to the ankle ligaments, which are associated with sprains of a certain severity (with significant inflammation and hematoma), or congenital problems such as synostosis of the tarsus (fused bones in the foot) associated with milder sprains.

Symptoms

Repeated sprains of the ankle accompanied by a feeling of instability when walking or running, and pain on the outside of the ankle, below the fibula.

Treatment

If the injury is severe, the UCA children's team will propose the reconstruction of the external lateral ligament of the ankle via arthroscopy.
