Anterior Lateral Shoulder Aspect Pathology

WHAT IS IT?

Anterior lateral shoulder aspect pathology is also known as swimmer's shoulder or pitcher's shoulder. This is a pathology which affects both the rotator cuff and the shoulder capsulabral group. It always affects the dominant shoulder.

CAUSES

It is produced due to the fact that in the 90º adduction position with forced external rotation (for instance when pitching in baseball) a conflict is established.

SYMPTOMS

  • Limited internal rotation.
  • Pain when lifting.
  • Possible signs of hyper-mobility.

TREATMENT

  • Physiotherapy: Stretching and muscle rebalancing exercises.
  • Pharmaceutical: Anti-inflammatory medication and/or painkillers.
  • Cortico-anaesthetic and occasionally PRGF®-Endoret® injections to calm the swelling.
  • Arthroscopic surgery.
