Dr. Gorka Knörr publishes the excellent results of a new arthroscopic technique to treat a common congenital condition of the child's foot

Dr. Gorka Knörr and the team of the Arthroscopic Surgery Unit (UCA, according to the Spanish acronym) of Dr. Mikel Sánchez, in collaboration with leading professionals in the field of pediatric trauma, have recently published a scientific article in The Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery. This study presents the results of the first international series of arthroscopic treatment of two congenital conditions of the infant foot: persistent symptomatic calcaneonavicular coalition (CNC) and too long anterior process (TLAP).

The study analyzed 12 cases of CNC and 19 cases of TLAP in surgical pediatric patients between 10 and 15 years old who were born between 2009 and 2013. Variables such as pain score and client satisfaction were taken into account following the AOFAS scale (American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society).

These indicators concluded that the arthroscopic surgery technique for percutaneous foot pathology created by Dr. Gorka Knörr allows a faster recovery and produces better results compared to the classical open surgery. In addition, it is a less invasive treatment for the patient, which will reduce the periods of pain and repetitive sprains at an early age, as well as the possible problems of stiffness of the foot than can be shown in adulthood.

In addition to Dr. Gorka Knörr, Dr. Francisco Soldado and Dr. Josep María de Bergua from the UCA participated in the study along with other leading specialists.
