Dr. Gorka Knörr will be present at the prestigious SOFCOT 2021 as speaker

Dr. Gorka Knörr, from the team of the Arthroscopic Surgery Unit of Dr. Mikel Sánchez (UCA, according to the Spanish acronym), specialist and referent in Orthopaedic Surgery for Kids at the UCA, gave a conference (Conférence d'Enseignement) at the 95th Congress of the SOFCOT (Société Française de Chirurgie Orthopédique et Traumatologie) at the Palais des Congrès in Paris on 10 November. The SOFCOT congress is one of the most prestigious congresses within the field of orthopaedic surgery at European level.

These lectures, reserved for advanced experts in a surgical subject, are part of the highlights of the congress. They are given annually and they are published in the prestigious French teaching conference books (Conférences d'Enseignement) as well as in the French orthopaedic surgery journal (Revue de Chirurgie Orthopédique -RCO-) and in its European version, the OTSR (Orthopedic and Traumatology Surgical Research), as an instructional course.

The topic of Dr. Knörr's lecture within the framework of the SOFCOT is "Treatment of hallux valgus in children and adolescents". Juvenile hallux valgus is a deformity of the foot that presents a deviation of the first toe, sometimes very striking, which produces a bulge, popularly known as "bunion". Congenital anatomical problems (from birth) of the joints are the main cause of this deviation; a deviation that tends to aggravate, producing significant deformities in adulthood and causing footwear problems and pain when walking. The treatment to face this pathology is difficult and controversial because of the scarcity of techniques adapted to this age group.

Dr. Gorka Knörr has developed an innovative minimally invasive surgical technique to deal with this deformity when it appears in the paediatric age. This technique has showed very satisfactory results and it is safe for children's bones, which have delicate structures such as growth plates. This is why the French medical community has chosen Dr. Knörr as an international reference to give this conference, disseminate the technique and unify professional criteria in this pathology.

The Arthroscopic Surgery Unit of Dr. Mikel Sánchez (UCA) returns with this event, once again, to the international forefront of orthopaedic surgery.
